Story details

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources rejected claims of new fuel prices circulating on social media in a statement dated 4 October. It said the figures being shared were not based on an official decision and that the automatic-pricing committee had not met or issued a decision or recommendation on changing prices by that date.

The ministry said current prices remained in force and that any developments would be announced through official channels. It also denied reports of shortages of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders in some governorates, saying refinery output, transport and filling operations were continuing normally.

The statement gives neither price levels nor a date for any subsequent decision. It is therefore a ministry update on the position as of 4 October and on supply claims, not a forecast of a fuel-price increase.
