Story details

Egypt’s petroleum minister and Chevron reviewed technical, commercial and legal work for connecting Cyprus’s Aphrodite gas field to Egyptian infrastructure, the ministry reported on 8 October 2026. The meeting took place during the minister’s Athens visit.

The proposed connection would route gas from the field offshore Cyprus toward Egypt’s gas system. The ministry said the work had advanced through study and agreement stages, but remaining steps were still required.

Long-lead-item procurement was identified as the next step, followed by a final investment decision and implementation. The release did not say that procurement, construction or gas delivery had begun.

Aphrodite is a Cyprus field; the discussion concerns a potential link with Egypt. No investment amount, delivery date or planned flow rate was included in the report.
