Story details

Jordan’s Public–Private Partnership Council met at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on 6 October to review proposed amendments to the regulation governing energy-conservation measures and efficiency improvements, issued under the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Law No. 13 of 2012. The ministry’s Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate presented the main proposed changes, and participants provided comments. The release does not say that revised rules were finally adopted.

The proposals would transfer licensing of energy-services companies to the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, with those companies conducting energy-audit studies. They also set efficiency criteria for new buildings, remove mandatory application of the criteria to existing buildings, and link incentives and exemptions to carrying out energy audits and implementing their recommendations. These remain proposals under review, not requirements brought into force by the meeting; the ministry reported no projected savings or costs.
