Story details

Nigeria’s Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command in Abia State said it would collaborate with the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) on substandard electrical installations and unlicensed practitioners. The ministry report says the state commandant made the pledge while receiving a LECAN delegation at the command headquarters in Umuahia; it does not give the meeting date.

LECAN representatives asked the corps to support enforcement of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency Act 2015, particularly against substandard electrical materials and contractors operating without a licence. The commandant urged contractors to follow established standards and asked the association to share actionable information about alleged offenders and to expand public education on electrical safety.

The report links faulty installations with fire and electrocution risks but gives no incident count, inspection result, enforcement action or formal agreement. The stated collaboration remains a commitment described by the ministry, rather than evidence that enforcement changes have already taken effect.
