Story details
In a report published on 1 October, Egypt’s State Information Service said Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam had addressed generational skills and technology in water management at the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum in Rome. Sewilam said 130 ministry employees had been selected through a competitive process for skills development and familiarization with modern technologies and management methods. The report did not give a training completion date or say the selected staff had completed the program.
The minister pointed to remote sensing, satellite imagery, drones, modelling, digital decision-support systems and artificial intelligence as areas of expertise increasingly needed in the sector. He also cited around 6,500 water-user associations and called for broader participation by young farmers in water-management decisions. These figures and priorities were presented as ministry statements; the SIS report did not provide an underlying dataset, a breakdown by location or measured outcomes from the workforce initiative.
