Story details
The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on 9 October that rehabilitation work on several water bodies in Azraq Wetland Reserve had been completed. Reserve manager Hazem al-Hreisha said the work was carried out through the MENAWET Water Path project, funded by the Mediterranean freshwater donors initiative and in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The report gave no project budget, restored surface area or measured ecological outcome.
Petra linked the work to recommendations from a 2025 fish study, which called for rehabilitating selected water bodies, removing invasive species and reshaping shorelines and depths; the report also said the boundaries of some water bodies were expanded. Some were temporarily dried during spring 2026 to allow the works. The reserve manager said water had returned and described the sites as habitat for fish, birds and other organisms, but the article did not provide post-work monitoring measurements.
