Story details
Reksoft said on 5 October that it and Nornickel had completed development and deployed a converter-tap monitoring system at a metallurgical operation in Norilsk. The system uses computer vision and infrared cameras to identify changes between melt phases and alert operators as the stream composition changes. The release says the updated system was installed at the site; it does not establish deployment across all converters or plants.
Two infrared cameras, covering near and mid ranges, were installed opposite each converter mouth. The models identify the converter mouth, ladle, lifting beam and melt stream, then use their positions to classify operating stages. Image dynamics help distinguish moving melt from stationary accretions, while separate thresholds are used for converter slag, rich matte and blister copper. The source reports no independently measured recovery gain or model-accuracy figure.
