Story details

Qatar’s ports received 160 vessels in September, a 20% increase from August, according to figures attributed to Mwani Qatar in a Qatar News Agency report published on 1 October. The company said the ports handled more than 54,000 standard containers, up 10% month on month.

The same monthly update put general cargo at around 40,000 tonnes and bulk cargo at more than 17,000 tonnes. Ports also handled 33 units of vehicles and equipment. Livestock receipts exceeded 8,000 head, 38% higher than in August. The figures describe activity across the ports managed by Mwani Qatar.

These are monthly operational measures, not a measure of cargo value or total trade. The reported changes compare September with August and do not establish a longer-term trend. Vessel calls, container volumes and cargo categories capture different parts of port activity, so the month-on-month rises should be read separately.
