Story details

In an operations update published on 8 October, Ivanhoe Mines reported that the Kamoa-Kakula complex in the Democratic Republic of the Congo produced 76,401 metric tonnes of copper contained in saleable products during July–September 2026. The company’s total was above the 64,328 tonnes reported for the previous quarter.

Ivanhoe said its solar and battery-storage facilities at Kamoa-Kakula were fully ramped up by quarter-end and supplied 60 MW of continuous baseload power to the operation. The company reported that on-site generator diesel use in September was 40% lower than in July.

The company also said signed power-purchase agreements are intended to raise hybrid solar capacity to 120 MW within 18 months. That additional capacity is a target in the agreements, separate from the 60-MW facility already operating.
