Sudan’s Energy and Oil Minister said maintenance of earlier faults at some main power stations had been completed, with a noticeable improvement in electricity service, Sudan News Agency reported on 6 October. The remarks followed a regular meeting on the electricity sector.

The minister called for continued maintenance at hydropower and thermal generation facilities and greater attention to renewable energy. He said the ministry was considering alternative energy sources to support the winter and summer agricultural seasons.

He also directed the Renewable Energy Administration to coordinate with state governments to identify proposed solar projects and arrange necessary guarantees with relevant bodies under the new electricity law.

The report did not identify the stations, give their capacity or output, or set out financing and implementation timelines. The solar projects remain proposals; the report announced no new award or commissioning.
