Story details

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said concrete work was complete on an overhead bridge connecting Terminals 1 and 2 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. In a report dated 7 October, FAAN said the canopy, framing and rails were substantially in place and set the December travel peak as its target for opening the bridge.

The ministry report said the bridge is also intended to connect the airport transit hub and support a planned expansion of Terminal 2’s finger piers. Separately, the Federal Government is initiating an extension of the Lagos Red Line to the airport, with four or five proposed stops inside the airport perimeter. Environmental assessment, design review and procurement for the rail extension were still underway in the report.

The bridge works and rail link are separate project stages: the bridge had advanced through concrete work, while the rail proposal remained in assessment and procurement. The report provides no confirmation that the bridge had opened or that the rail extension had been approved for construction.
