Story details
Statistics Norway’s index for extraction, mining, manufacturing and electricity supply rose 1.0% in August from July after seasonal adjustment.
Compared with August 2025, the overall index was 0.6% lower. Extraction and related services rose 1.6% monthly but were down 0.5% year over year.
The crude-petroleum extraction index increased 6.5% in August after falling 12.0% in July from June. These are index changes, not oil volumes in barrels.
Released on 7 October, the figures are observed production-index data across several industries, distinct from turnover, commodity prices and forecasts. A monthly increase can therefore occur alongside an annual decline, because the two comparisons use different reference months. As the series aggregates several industries, the overall change does not mean every subsector moved by the same amount or in the same direction. Each figure belongs to its own index series.
