Story details
Scottish Government weighted estimates from Business Insights and Conditions Survey wave 164 found 73.3% of eligible businesses were very or somewhat concerned about energy prices. The survey covered businesses with at least 10 employees and a presence in Scotland.
Concern was estimated at 82.9% in construction and 84.1% in transport and storage. Responses refer to 7–20 September 2026; these are weighted survey estimates, not a census of every business.
For October, 14.3% expected to raise prices for goods or services sold. Among businesses considering increases, labour costs (31.3%) and energy prices (30.5%) were the most cited factors.
The Scottish Government released the wave on 1 October. The figures describe respondents’ reported concerns and intentions during the survey period, rather than realised price changes or a forecast of inflation. These estimates describe the defined survey population.
