Story details

Azerbaijan’s energy ministry said its fourth high-level energy dialogue with the European Union took place in Brussels on October 2. The meeting reviewed natural-gas supply, energy security, renewable energy, electricity grids and methane reduction. The ministry reported that about half of Azerbaijan’s gas exports go to Europe, with 12.8 billion cubic metres supplied there last year and more than 7 bcm delivered in the first eight months of 2026.

The ministry said Azerbaijani gas began reaching Germany and Austria in 2026, bringing the number of EU member states receiving it to ten. It also discussed the Shah Deniz Compression project, non-associated gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields and full-field development of Absheron as projects aimed at increasing production.

The ministry stated that the initial phase of expanding the Trans Adriatic Pipeline’s transmission capacity was under way, with further Southern Gas Corridor expansion a possibility. It also said about 80% of Azerbaijan’s crude exports go to Europe. These are government-reported figures and project descriptions; the release contains no independent measurement or updated production forecast.

The Brussels dialogue also reviewed Caspian offshore wind and onshore solar potential and a feasibility study for a Caspian–Black Sea–Europe green-electricity corridor. The ministry described cooperation and possible future development, not a final investment decision or construction approval. Its release gives no delivery targets beyond the specific historical and year-to-date volumes cited.
