Story details

Jordan’s Higher Steering Committee for the Fils Al-Reef rural electrification program approved electricity connections and solar systems for about 204 homes and sites in September, at a total cost of JD648,000. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced the approvals through Petra on October 8. The committee’s decisions followed eligibility changes that broadened access to funded connections.

The allocations covered JD185,000 for residential properties, JD24,000 for livestock farms and JD108,000 for farms with artesian wells. Productive, industrial, investment and tourism projects received JD191,000, conditional on creating local jobs. Another JD48,000 covered government-project connections and JD11,000 was earmarked for lighting roads leading to cemeteries. These are funding categories reported for the September approvals.

The committee also approved grid-connected solar systems for 52 homes belonging to low-income families and National Aid Fund beneficiaries. A further JD29,000 was allocated to increase transformer capacity at stations established under the program over the previous decade, addressing weak supply and reducing losses, according to the ministry director quoted by Petra.

The announcement concerns approvals and allocations, not proof that all connections or solar systems have been installed. It gives no location-by-location list, commissioning schedule or measured reduction in household bills. Applications are to continue under Cabinet-approved criteria. The total and component allocations describe September decisions; they should not be read as annual program spending or completed infrastructure.
