Story details

Jordan’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, working with the Jordan Chamber of Industry, launched three industrial strategies for 2027–2029 on October 6. They cover engineering, food, and chemical industries and cosmetics. The ministry said the documents provide implementation frameworks with priorities, initiatives, projects, indicators and measurable targets intended to raise the sectors’ contribution to growth, exports, investment and employment.

The engineering plan seeks higher-value manufacturing and jobs, with attention to metal products and electrical equipment. The food-sector strategy focuses on productivity, manufacturing efficiency, product development, market access and food security. The chemicals and cosmetics plan aims to expand specialized, higher-value output and exports. Across the strategies, the stated priorities include workforce skills, innovation, research and development, and improved market access.

The plans were prepared with chamber coordination and support from the Economic Reform Program, which facilitated consultations with sector representatives and other stakeholders. They also address industrial facilities’ readiness for environmental and sustainability requirements in international markets, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

Each strategy is said to include an implementation plan, indicators and governance and monitoring arrangements. The announcement sets out objectives for the 2027–2029 period, not achieved results or committed spending. Petra reported no budget totals, company-level milestones or progress baseline, so the strategies should be read as policy plans whose delivery will depend on future public-private coordination.
