Story details

GlobalFoundries (GF) marked delivery on 5 October 2026 of about 6 megawatts of on-site solar arrays and a 16-megawatt battery system at its Essex Junction, Vermont semiconductor site. Delivery is a project milestone, not full commissioning.

GF says the installation is intended to support grid reliability and energy-cost management, while power quality matters for sensitive chipmaking equipment. Both figures are power ratings in megawatts; the release gives no battery energy capacity in megawatt-hours or discharge duration.

The systems are expected to come fully online in coming months and remain in service for over 20 years. GF reports no measured savings, peak-demand reduction, emissions result or reliability change; the benefits remain project aims and expected roles.

Commissioning and operating data will show performance. The project concerns energy infrastructure at GF’s Vermont site, not semiconductor output. Mubadala identifies its investment in GF, providing an Abu Dhabi investor link; the physical energy project is in Vermont.
