Story details

The Piauí government reported on 10 October that the Nova Algodões dam, under construction at Cocal in the state’s north, had reached 57.32% completion. The project uses 213,000 cubic metres of roller-compacted concrete and 32,000 cubic metres of conventional concrete in the dam structure, according to the report.

The state’s Institute for Development of Piauí (Idepi) is carrying out the work, which the article says receives R$240 million through the federal New PAC programme. The report describes water supply, irrigation, farming, livestock and fish-farming as expected benefits; it does not report that these services or economic gains have already been delivered.
