Story details
Aqaba received varying rainfall during unsettled weather that began on Friday evening, according to a Petra report dated 10 October. The city’s Public Works director at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority said the highest cited totals were about 10.4 millimetres at the Customs and Al-Masfar areas in the north, 6.2 mm at the Development station in the center and 6.4 mm at the Ports station in the south.
The official said roads remained passable and stormwater drains were operating, with no accidents or significant damage reported. Traffic, tourism, port and container-terminal activity were also described as normal while crews positioned equipment at locations prone to water accumulation. The authority says it cleans and maintains channels, culverts and drains four times a year; the report expected the weather to ease gradually over the following hours.
