New Valley plan combines Birket Mut lake works and a tree plantation
A Dakhla project with reported estimated investment of EGP 780 million includes a 10,000-feddan plantation, a separate 740-feddan development site and a planned 6.5km water line.
Al Shorouk reported on 10 October that the New Valley governor and local officials laid the foundation stone for a development project around Birket Mut and a nearby tree plantation in Dakhla. The reported estimated investment is EGP 780 million; the 10,000-feddan plantation area is separate from a 740-feddan development site, which includes a 640-feddan lake surface.
The reported plan is phased, with environmental and water studies and lake rehabilitation preceding later development. A 6.5-kilometre water-transfer line is among its listed infrastructure. These are reported project specifications, not proof construction is complete or estimated funding has been disbursed.
The two governments plan a joint committee meeting in the first quarter of 2027, with renewable energy, industry and electronics among the priority sectors.
The plant-protection authority reported aerial spraying across several Gezira areas, with Rahad next and an additional aircraft planned for western Gezira.
