Story details

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said on September 17 that a technical delegation travelled to Tashkent to discuss the Toti Maidan Gas Block contract with Uzbek counterparts. The visit aimed to assess technical challenges jointly and identify solutions. The ministry did not specify the issues under discussion.

Officials and representatives of Afghan and Uzbek institutions held several technical meetings and reviewed matters related to the gas block, the ministry said. It reported progress toward practical joint solutions, while consultations continued. The statement gave no production or reserve estimates, project cost, construction timetable or final agreement.

The Afghan delegation also visited Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Mines Geological Museum and received information on geological studies, mineral samples and scientific work. Afghanistan’s ministry said it values cooperation with Uzbekistan in mining, petroleum and natural gas. The release did not say that gas production had begun or that the contract had changed.
