Story details
Aramco’s Elements magazine describes cooperation among 12 OGCI members and 56 OGDC signatories, with the latter count referring to August 2026. It reports that aggregate upstream methane intensity among OGCI members fell 62% between 2017 and 2024, based on independently reviewed data.
That is a group intensity comparison over a historical period, rather than a new October measurement at an individual well. Aramco also describes an OGCI ambition of 0.1% operated upstream methane intensity by 2030 and work on reporting, verification and satellite monitoring.
For operators, the practical question is whether detected emissions lead to repairs and repeat measurements. Membership, a future ambition and verified performance are different evidence categories; the update does not establish the economics or emissions outcome of any particular repair.
