Story details
Saudi Arabian Oil Company, known as Saudi Aramco, and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) officially announced the completion and closing of a landmark transaction to consolidate sovereign artificial intelligence capabilities. Under the executed agreements, Aramco acquired a 49 percent equity interest in national AI champion HUMAIN through a wholly owned subsidiary, while PIF maintains a controlling 51 percent stake. The transaction brings together Saudi Arabia's leading industrial conglomerate and sovereign wealth fund to accelerate AI infrastructure, cloud computing and generative intelligence.
Aramco is contributing approximately 9.9 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to 2.6 billion US dollars, in cash during 2026, alongside transferring proprietary artificial intelligence systems, specialized intellectual property and advanced computing infrastructure. The partnership pools technical expertise, computing clusters and high-calibre engineering talent under HUMAIN. The joint venture entity is mandated to build a sovereign full-stack artificial intelligence ecosystem spanning green energy-powered hyperscale data centres, advanced cloud infrastructure and specialized enterprise AI models, including the frontier Arabic multimodal large language model ALLaM.
A core strategic milestone of HUMAIN's development roadmap is the phased deployment of 3 gigawatts of dedicated artificial intelligence data centre capacity across the Kingdom by 2030. These hyperscale computing facilities will be co-located with renewable power generation and industrial facilities, leveraging Aramco's power engineering capabilities to ensure reliable, high-efficiency baseload energy delivery. The infrastructure will provide the computational power required to run advanced scientific simulations, geological reservoir modelling and industrial process automation at unprecedented scale.
Aramco plans to integrate HUMAIN's high-performance AI architecture directly across its global operations, spanning upstream reservoir characterisation, refining optimisation and global energy supply chains. Management noted that deploying frontier agentic intelligence across capital-intensive operations will unlock significant productivity gains, reduce operational costs and create new high-margin commercial revenue lines. The partnership directly supports Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 economic transformation agenda, positioning the Kingdom as an international hub for energy-efficient computing and artificial intelligence innovation.
