Story details

Brightstar Resources announced on 28 October that a new phase of diamond drilling had started at Two Mile Hill-Shillington in Western Australia. The programme comprises seven holes and approximately 6,500 metres, designed to test extensions of the Shirvington Zone along strike and at depth beneath the existing resource.

The first rig was on site, with a second expected in the following days. The deposit’s current mineral resource is 24.6 million tonnes at 1.8 grams of gold per tonne for 1.45 million ounces. It forms part of the wider Sandstone project, whose stated resource is 3.6 million ounces at 1.4 g/t. Neither figure represents new output from the drilling now beginning.

The work follows an earlier intersection of 305 metres at 1.33 g/t from 584 metres in TMHDD26003, including 173 metres at 1.42 g/t beneath the current resource. Planned holes will investigate extensions around the mineralised tonalite, including its incompletely defined western contact. Assays for three previous deep holes are expected in November.

Brightstar intends the information to feed a Two Mile Hill resource update during the current quarter, with the Sandstone pre-feasibility study also expected in that period. Those are company timetables and study objectives. Continuity, resource growth and any eventual underground development scenario require assessment of the drilling and technical work before they can be established.
