Story details
Egypt’s Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center issued a September 6 edition of its Contemporary Economic Horizons bulletin titled “Changes in Trade Policies.” It described a shift in how companies choose production and investment locations: resilience, economic security, reliable energy and technology supplies, and lower dependence on single sources have joined cost and efficiency considerations.
The bulletin compared Vietnam’s integration into global value chains with India’s more selective trade policy. It said Vietnam’s exports reached about $283 billion in 2020, while domestic value added was estimated at 35%–40%; it contrasted that with 55%–60% in China and over 70% in South Korea. The report argued Egypt should attract export-oriented investment, deepen local content and move into higher-value activities.
