Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi met Australian, Chinese and South African mining executives on September 3 during the Africa Down Under conference in Perth. Talks covered gold and mineral exploration under Egypt’s open-block system and reforms intended to make opportunities easier for international companies to assess.
Badawi discussed possible Egyptian gold opportunities with Perseus Mining and exploration prospects with Gold Fields. With Chinese services company Xinhai, he discussed engineering, processing and project development, including Xinhai’s strategic cooperation and investment agreement with Aton Resources, which included C$4 million in Aton shares.
