Story details

First Atlas Resources announced on 28 October that it had completed 7.375 line-kilometres of two-dimensional seismic acquisition in Nova Scotia’s Cumberland Basin. Echo Seismic carried out the fieldwork, which the company said finished on time and within budget. Completed acquisition is distinct from a finished subsurface interpretation.

First Atlas engaged Earth Signal Processing to process the data and improve structural imaging. In parallel, it submitted 109 soil-gas samples to GeoFrontiers in Texas. The announced laboratory panel examines helium and C1–C4 hydrocarbons, while processed seismic data will help evaluate potential migration pathways and geological structures.

The company intends to integrate the results with regional models across the Cobequid fault zone before refining exploration priorities. Samples submitted for analysis are not confirmed gas concentrations, and seismic structures alone do not establish the size, flow rate or commercial recoverability of a gas accumulation.

The release refers to exploration results obtained elsewhere in the region by technical partner Quebec Innovative Materials. Those findings provide regional context and should not be presented as discoveries on First Atlas’s properties. Further drilling and appropriate testing would be needed to evaluate any accumulation identified through the company’s own targeting work.
