Story details
A FERC notice published in the Federal Register on 28 October sets the environmental review schedule for MountainWest Overthrust Pipeline’s Green River West Expansion Project in Wyoming. The underlying notice is dated 23 October. The application, filed on 1 July, seeks authorisation to build and operate additional gas transportation facilities.
The proposal would provide up to 64,000 dekatherms per day of firm transportation from receipt points near Opal to a new WE Soda delivery station in Sweetwater County. Planned works include two 12-inch delivery taps, a 6.78-mile pipeline of the same diameter, a meter and regulator station at the Westvaco Trona Processing Plant, and access roads.
FERC staff plan to issue an environmental assessment on 5 February 2027. The notice sets 6 May 2027 as the associated deadline for other agencies’ federal authorisation decisions, subject to applicable law. These dates describe the review process and do not promise approval or establish a construction start.
Issues raised during scoping include surface waters and water-quality permits, wildlife, sensitive species, soils, vegetation and cultural and paleontological resources. The Bureau of Land Management’s Kemmerer office is participating as a cooperating agency. Substantive comments are to be addressed in the assessment before the regulatory process advances.
