Story details

HM Revenue and Customs confirmed on 9 September that it would stop publishing preliminary and second interim estimates of the UK VAT gap. The agency said its VAT gap team made the decision on 7 September after consultation and consideration.

HMRC will continue one VAT gap estimate in its annual Measuring Tax Gaps statistics alongside other tax-gap measures. The next estimate is expected in the 2027 edition. This changes the release schedule, not the definition or collection of VAT.
