Story details

Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum announced on 4 August 2026 that gas supplies had begun from the Khor Mor field in the Kurdistan Region to Iraq's Ministry of Electricity in Kirkuk. The agreement provides for 100 million standard cubic feet per day to the Kirkuk Taza power station for an initial one-year term. It was signed in the preceding December, so the August milestone is first delivery rather than a newly signed supply contract.

The companies are joint operators of the Kurdistan Gas Project. They linked the new market to the KM250 expansion, commissioned in October 2025, which increased Khor Mor's capacity by 50% to 750 million standard cubic feet per day. That capacity figure concerns the expanded facility; it should not be presented as the amount assigned solely to the Kirkuk agreement or as measured average deliveries during the new contract.

The development connects gas production and processing with electricity generation elsewhere in Iraq. For well-industry analysis, the commercial outlet matters because additional processing capacity needs customers and a delivery route to generate value. However, the announcement does not identify new wells drilled specifically for this supply arrangement, nor does it provide a contract price, payment schedule or precise producing-well coordinates.

The official statement supports a supply-start event with named operators, field, customer and contracted daily quantity. It does not establish the actual volume received on every subsequent day or a verified increase in electricity output. Those outcomes require operating and delivery data. Keeping the first-gas-supply milestone separate from the earlier expansion and the contract's daily commitment allows market development to be tracked without counting the same capacity as multiple independent production additions.
