Story details

Jordan’s National Agricultural Research Center completed a water–energy–food–ecosystems assessment covering 300 farms, Petra reported. The assessment recorded a mean index of 0.42 on a scale from zero to one and identified water as a major constraint on agriculture.

The index placed most surveyed farms in a fragile-to-moderate sustainability bracket. NARC and ICARDA experts reviewed irrigation and pumping efficiency, groundwater and energy management, soil salinity, fertilizer use and natural-resource stewardship, then prioritized immediate field interventions.
