Story details
Nadara published on 28 October its announcement that it had acquired the 48-megawatt Bettyhill Phase 2 wind project from Eden Renewables. The statement carries an Edinburgh dateline of 27 October. The acquisition concerns a fully consented development in Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands, which Nadara now intends to finance, build and operate.
The wind farm is planned to comprise up to ten turbines. Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with operations targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028. The 48 MW figure is the project’s planned generating capacity, not electricity already being produced or an annual energy output.
Nadara has committed to honouring the community benefits package developed by Eden. It includes an opportunity for the local community to own up to 20% of the project, a local electricity discount scheme, an education programme and a community benefits fund. The ownership element is an opportunity, rather than confirmation that the community already holds that share.
The Highland Council granted consent in February 2024. The acquisition transfers a consented project into Nadara’s development portfolio, while funding, construction and commissioning remain future delivery stages. The release does not disclose a transaction price, so the purchase cost cannot be inferred from the capacity or the community ownership ceiling.
