Story details

Agriculture Minister of State Aliyu Abdullahi said the federal government is working to expand soil-testing services across all 774 local government areas. TheCable reported on October 20 that he spoke at the opening of a two-day fertiliser summit in Abuja on October 19.

He said the Nigerian Farmers’ Soil Health Scheme would provide soil-specific recommendations, including soil-health cards and a Nigeria Soil Information System. The minister cited funding, data quality, coordination and farmer awareness as implementation challenges. The nationwide coverage is a target, not a claim that every LGA already has a service.
