Story details

Nigeria’s Senate called for emergency repairs and full reconstruction of the Onitsha–Iyiowa–Odekpe–Atani–Ogwuikpele–Ndoni federal highway, according to an October 17 account by the National Assembly Library Trust Fund. Senator Tony Nwoye said the 70-kilometre corridor had not received major rehabilitation since partial construction in the late 1980s.

The Senate urged FERMA, the Works Ministry or the South-East Development Commission to repair impassable sections and asked the Works Ministry to include a full overhaul in an intervention or alternative-financing programme. These are legislative requests; the report does not say repairs have begun.
