Story details

Nigeria’s Senate passed for third reading a bill to establish a Federal College of Agriculture in Shani Local Government Area, Borno State. The National Assembly Library Trust Fund reported the passage on October 18; Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume sponsored the bill.

The proposed college would focus on agricultural technology, improved crop varieties and scientific methods. The bill still required consideration by the House of Representatives and presidential assent, so the institution had not yet been established. The Senate account cites rice, tomato and onion cultivation in the area as part of the location rationale.
