Story details

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate reported an Aker BP gas discovery at Alpehumle on September 16. The prospect lies 25 kilometres north of Duva in production licence 1153. Preliminary recoverable resources are estimated at 0.15–2.4 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalent, corresponding to 1–15 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Well 36/4-2 encountered a 10-metre gas column in the Agat Formation, with very good reservoir quality, but did not establish the hydrocarbon-water contact. Sidetrack 36/4-2 A was drilled to delineate the discovery and seek that contact. It encountered four metres of very good-quality sandstone that was water-bearing. Extensive sampling and data collection covered both wellbores.

The Scarabeo 8 rig drilled the prospect, and the wellbores were scheduled for permanent plugging and abandonment. The partners will assess economic viability and possible further delineation. The large estimate range and differing wellbore results describe remaining appraisal uncertainty; they do not establish a producing field or a measured future output rate.
