Story details

PETRONAS announced on September 14 that PC JDA and PTTEP JDX had received Malaysian and Thai government approvals for the Block A-18-01 production-sharing contract. The parties also signed a gas sales agreement with PETRONAS and PTT. The exchange of signed documents establishes a new contractual framework for continued development.

The new contract has a 35-year term beginning January 1, 2026. It combines existing Block A-18 with an adjacent exploration area and provides for development beyond the current contract's April 20, 2029 expiry. Incorporating exploration acreage represents additional resource potential, not a newly demonstrated discovery or production increase.

PETRONAS reports approximately 700 million standard cubic feet per day of combined production capacity across the joint area's A-18-01 and B-17-01 blocks, shared equally between the countries. That is a two-block capacity figure, not measured output from A-18-01 alone or an individual well's rate.
