Story details
Phillips 66 released third-quarter results on 28 October, reporting earnings attributable to the company of US$5.616 billion and adjusted earnings of US$5.619 billion. Both round to US$5.6 billion, compared with approximately US$3.8 billion in the preceding quarter. Reported earnings and the adjusted non-GAAP measure remain distinct.
Refinery crude-capacity utilisation increased to 98% from 96% in the second quarter. Clean-product yield was 86%, while the company reported a third-quarter record distillate yield of 41%. Refining realised margin increased to US$38.00 per barrel from US$24.08, supporting higher refining earnings.
Midstream natural-gas-liquids fractionation averaged approximately one million barrels per day. Earnings in midstream, chemicals, marketing and specialties, and renewable fuels declined sequentially, illustrating that the overall improvement was not uniform across the portfolio. The company attributed the refining improvement principally to higher margins and volumes.
Phillips 66 returned approximately US$2.8 billion through dividends and share repurchases and reduced total debt to approximately US$18.5 billion. It also reported a final investment decision for the proposed Western Gateway Pipeline system, with service expected in 2029. That project milestone is separate from a completed pipeline or current operating volumes.
