Qatar’s energy minister and QatarEnergy chief executive, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, discussed a proposed pipeline alternative to the Strait of Hormuz at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York on September 21. He thanked neighbouring countries for permitting a route across their territories, but said Qatar rejected the option on commercial and technical grounds.

Al Kaabi explained that gas sent through that pipeline would need to be liquefied at receiving terminals to serve the LNG export chain. In his assessment, this would duplicate facilities already being developed in Qatar for the North Field expansion. The remarks addressed the proposed export arrangement and its processing requirements.
