Story details

Russia’s consumer price index was 0.35% higher in September 2026 than in August, and 5.04% above December 2025, Rosstat reported on 9 October. The year-on-year index was 6.35%. For January–September, prices were 5.93% higher than in the same months of 2025.

The category detail shows differing monthly movements. Food prices excluding fruit and vegetables increased 0.56% in September. The fruit-and-vegetable index was 95.76% of its August level, a 4.24% decline. Overall food prices, including alcoholic drinks, were unchanged month on month.

These measures use different reference periods: the monthly result compares September with August; the 5.04% figure compares September with December 2025; and the 6.35% figure compares September with September 2025. The January–September rate compares two nine-month periods.

Rosstat’s release is a backward-looking price index, not a forecast. The aggregate and category indices do not mean every household faces the same basket or that every item moved in line with the headline rate. The figures refer to Russia’s national consumer-price statistics.
