Story details
Palm and date residues in Saudi Arabia’s Qassim Region could support artisanal, agricultural and industrial products, according to a Saudi Press Agency report dated September 27. The report lists fronds, palm ribs, frond bases, fibres, date clusters and pits among the materials available for reuse. It notes that processing depends on the properties of each residue and the intended application.
Possible uses cited include fibreboard, organic fertilizer, animal feed and bioenergy, while lower-grade dates may be turned into date products to reduce food loss. The report identifies investment openings in waste-processing facilities and food or industrial products made from dates and pits.
