Story details
SLB has been awarded a contract by Equinor for the Phase 3 development of the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea offshore Norway. In a September 16 announcement, SLB said the work will extend real-time leak detection, virtual flow metering and digital production monitoring across new subsea infrastructure. The companies did not disclose the contract value. The stated aim is to give the operator wider, live visibility of wells, pipelines and subsea equipment as the field’s production network expands.
The Phase 3 work builds on the Olga Online production management system deployed during Phase 2. SLB says that earlier deployment supported leak detection and real-time production surveillance across the network. The new scope will extend coverage to subsea templates and multiphase flowlines associated with Phase 3.
Olga Online combines first-principles multiphase flow models with real-time analytics. According to SLB, this supports early leak detection, virtual flow metering and continuous production surveillance. Equinor is expected to gain a broader view of the possible size, location and severity of a leak across the network. No quantified performance result was reported.
The system is scheduled to be implemented before production begins from the new Phase 3 facilities. SLB will support delivery, commissioning and long-term operation. That sequencing means the monitoring capability is planned to be ready ahead of the new facilities entering production. The announcement gives no exact installation schedule, performance target or quantified outcome. The operational value can be assessed once the equipment is running and the field begins accumulating relevant data.
