Story details

South Africa’s National Treasury and Department of Electricity and Energy said on 1 October that the final request for proposals for Phase I of the Independent Transmission Projects programme is now targeted for the second quarter of 2027. The earlier timetable had aimed for the third quarter of 2026.

The government said the extra time is intended to make the first private-participation transmission procurement commercially bankable and competitive. It said investor due diligence was scheduled from 28 September to 2 October, while the programme’s credit-guarantee vehicle is being established.
