Story details
Sudan’s minerals minister Nour El-Daim Taha briefed prime minister Kamil Idris on 22 September about the country’s participation in the Tianjin mining conference. The government said about 70 companies from China and other countries had expressed interest in Sudan’s mining sector.
Idris directed faster organisation of traditional mining and better oversight of gold production. He also called for a Sudan Centre for Mining and Geosciences to support training, staff development and international cooperation.
The meeting reviewed implementation of recent economic-reform decisions. Expressions of interest and instructions to establish a centre do not demonstrate completed investment contracts or an already operating training facility.
