Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, led a delegation on a visit to Kazakhstan covering Almaty and Astana. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on 4 October, he attended KIOGE 2026, the 30th Kazakhstan International Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference, held in Almaty from 30 September to 2 October, which brought together more than 500 companies from 30 countries.

On the sidelines of the conference, Al Mazrouei met Yerlan Akbarov, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Energy. They discussed strengthening energy connectivity and integration and prospects for further cooperation in the sector.

In Astana, the UAE, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the Central Asia–South Asia railway project. The signing was attended by Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Transport Zhanibek Taizhanov and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilxom Maxkamov. WAM’s report gives no investment amount, route or timetable for the memorandum.

The visit included an investment roundtable at the Astana International Financial Centre attended by entities including Etihad Water and Electricity, Etihad Rail, Masdar, AD Ports Group and Presight. In his meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Al Mazrouei discussed infrastructure and transport, joint project opportunities with AD Ports Group, the Middle Corridor and cooperation in artificial intelligence.
