Story details

The Scottish Government had opened a new 2026–27 grant strand for optimisation studies examining the efficiency and performance of existing heat networks. The gov.scot page was updated on 8 October to say the fund had closed for applications; it was first published on 11 September.

The pilot had a total budget of up to £200,000. It could cover 100% of eligible costs, up to £25,000 per project. Heat-network owners in Scotland, including public, private and third-sector organisations, were eligible to apply.

The stated application deadline was 5 p.m. on 7 October 2026, with projects due to finish by March 2027. The grant supported studies to identify inefficiencies in existing networks and assess remedies, including potential clean-heating options.

The update confirms that the application window closed; it does not report how many applications were received, which projects were selected or how much funding was paid. The announced budget and per-project cap therefore do not represent expenditure or completed network improvements.
