Story details
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy announced on October 4 that Natural Gas Distribution Company had won the license competition for a natural-gas distribution network at Al-Kharj Industrial City. The award covers construction, ownership and operation. The ministry said it followed investor prequalification, a tender process and assessment of submitted bids.
The ministry linked the competition to its liquid-fuel displacement programme, saying the network is intended to make natural gas available to users and support replacement of liquid fuels. It also described the tender as part of efforts to strengthen gas infrastructure and encourage investment through a competitive market.
The announcement records a license award and policy objective, rather than a completed network or gas delivery. It gives no investment value, designed capacity, route, number of users or construction timetable, so those measures cannot be assessed from the release.
The next measurable milestones would be details from the license holder or ministry on design, construction and commissioning. Until then, the award is authorization to develop the project, not evidence that Al-Kharj consumers are already receiving network gas.
