Story details
Egypt’s Ministry of Finance said in a statement reported by the State Information Service on 10 October that economic growth was projected at 5.1% for fiscal year 2025/26. The statement also said the private sector accounted for 65% of total investment, without specifying the period for that share. It reported a primary surplus equal to 4.9% of GDP and an overall deficit of 5.8% of GDP in the previous fiscal year.
The ministry said tax revenues reached 13% of GDP in that previous year and set a goal of bringing public debt down to 78% of GDP by June 2027. It also said external debt was to decline by about US$1–2 billion annually. These are government-reported indicators, a growth projection and debt objectives; the statement does not establish that future targets have been achieved.
