Story details

The federal government announced a $15 million Strategic Response Fund contribution on 20 October toward Xona Space Systems Canada’s $64.8 million plan for a mission-operations, satellite-development and manufacturing centre in Montréal. The project is intended to expand domestic production and engineering capacity for Pulsar, the company’s low-Earth-orbit positioning, navigation and timing system.

The government release says the expansion is expected to create about 126 skilled jobs and add mission-control, testing and manufacturing facilities. It describes Pulsar as a complement to GPS and Galileo, designed to provide more resilient navigation where conventional satellite signals are weak or unavailable. Those functions and job numbers are project expectations; the announcement does not report a completed facility or operational service.
