Story details

Eni announced a final investment decision for the Cronos gas development offshore Cyprus on 28 July 2026. The company operates Block 6 with a 50% interest, alongside TotalEnergies. First gas is targeted for 2028. The decision establishes an investment milestone; it does not mean the deepwater field is already producing or that the planned export volumes have been delivered.

Eni reported more than three trillion cubic feet of gas initially in place at Cronos. Gas initially in place is not the same as recoverable reserves, and the two measures should not be substituted. The project is expected to reach a production plateau of 500 million standard cubic feet per day. That plateau is a development forecast, rather than an operating average measured at a completed producing field.

Gas is planned to travel to Egypt's existing Zohr facilities for processing, then to the Damietta LNG plant for liquefaction and export, primarily to Europe. Eni said its marketing share would be 50% of LNG volumes, equivalent to 1.4 million tonnes per year. Contractual arrangements cover use of Egyptian infrastructure and commercialization. These commitments connect the upstream project with an export route without constituting a new well count.

For well-industry analysis, the announcement provides partners, resource terminology, an investment-decision stage and a production target. It does not disclose precise well coordinates, individual drilling schedules or a final project budget. Subsequent well construction and infrastructure updates are needed to assess delivery against the first-gas target. Keeping the decision, gas-in-place estimate and forecast plateau distinct prevents the development approval from being represented as current production or as already recovered gas.
